Page 9 - a past in the future
P. 9
“Let’s change the subject for a moment. Could you tell
me what the Equator Line is?”
“Yes, of course. It is the imaginary line that divides the
Earth in two halves, the northern hemisphere and the
southern hemisphere. It is also known as Parallel Zero.”
“And could you tell me two cities that are located on
the Parallel Zero?”
“No, Dad.”
“Doesn’t matter. I will help you. The first of them will
be Quito, on the American continent and the second will be
the city of Singapore on the Asian continent. The distance
between these two cities is almost twenty thousand
kilometers. We could practically say that they are opposites.
We could not find a greater distance between two points
located on the same line. Do you agree?”
“Okay,” Evelyn agreed delightedly.
“Now mentally draw a perpendicular north from Quito
and another from Singapore.”
“It’s done,” Evelyn confirmed.
“This two lines are perpendicular drawn from the same
horizontal line and therefore should never meet, but
nevertheless …” David was intentionally silent for a few
moments.
