“You were absolutely right,” Jennifer acknowledged

to David when the phone conversation with Martha ended.

“Regale my ears and tell me,” David said.

“Next Sunday we’re invited to a dinner at Howard

Moore’s house.”

“You see it! Not even fifteen days have passed since I

told you. I told you first, and then Glenn and Martha during
that marathon bourbon meeting that lasted until almost

midnight.”

“Martha told me that in addition to the four of us and
the host, there will also be a surprise guest.”

“Doctor Frederick Newmann,” David said flatly and
also with some solemnity.

“Se told me that she doesn’t know for sure, but that she

also bet on Newmann after everything we said in our
meeting last Sunday, the 6th.”
