Chapter 20.
. . . / . . .
The bar Jennifer chose met David’s requirements
perfectly. It was ideally set out for his purposes. The tables
were all isolated between partitions; small reserves
affording marvelous intimacy to their occupants.
Jennifer could not take her eyes off her ring. She was
gazing at her hands, enjoying a dreamy moment, when
David affectionately touched her left forearm.
“What’re you thinking about?” he asked her.
“I was wondering where you’ve been all this time. Why
didn’t I meet you before? I feel like everything before I
knew you was a complete waste of time. What have you
been doing these last few years in California? What made
you go out there?” Jennifer said.
David gazed lovingly at her, and held her hands softly in
his. Then he said, with a hint of a smile:
“One thing’s for sure, if after I answer all of these
questions, you’re still with me, I’ll be the happiest man in
the world.”
