“Your words are so enigmatic. Everything’s a mystery to
me. I can’t see where you’re going with all this,” she said.
“Can I ask you a favor?” David said.
“Of course, you can,” Jennifer replied.
“I want you to let me tell you my story. You probably
won’t believe it. But, please, don’t interrupt me no matter
how strange you think it is. Remember, if after you’ve heard
my story, you decide to leave me, I’ll understand. It’ll
destroy me, but I’ll understand.”
Jennifer looked a little worried after hearing David’s
strange preamble, but consented to listen to his story.
David took a deep breath and held Jennifer's hands in his
once again. He needed her contact to give him strength.
“This is a very special place for me,” he began. “I know
it is for you too, and that only strengthens our bond.”
“Please, just start. You’re making me a bag of nerves.
You’re really scaring me.”
“It was the day of the attacks in 2001,” David began.
